My extremely offline wife just heard about current events in another country via public radio before I heard about it via social media. Mastodon is great, but hasn’t filled that Hellsite shaped hole in the social media ecosystem yet
@steve movie theater was packed and I’m pretty sure it was because parents didn’t want to be cooped up with their kids with no power on the first day of vacation.

Journalists will never stick around this app long term sadly unless it adds quote posting. We desperately need it to communicate effectively, build on each others ideas, and add crucial context to posts. These are things replies simply do not accomplish. Also quote posting or reblogging does not = harassment! Tumblr, for instance, has had the feature since the beginning. We need it here now too 🙏🏻

@steve we are almost directly on ledge with very little soil, so any time someone sneezes a root system dislodges and a tree falls over.
Anyway power’s back on here already, and other than a couple hours of crazy winds this morning I’m feeling pretty underwhelmed by the “once in a generation storm” billing
