Excited today to have a great guest post from @riana about how Section 230 and the internet are actually important for food safety, and how undermining 230 could make us all less safe *physically* as well. https://www.techdirt.com/2023/03/09/another-casualty-if-section-230-gets-repealed-food-safety-data/
@randomino@kolektiva.social @rechelon yeah it’s not every day someone who teaches Theory of Computation gets to deploy Russell’s Paradox analogues to practical effect
Update! More deets via StarWars.com:
"Olivie Blake gives us a chilling glimpse into the mind of Emperor Palpatine.
Saladin Ahmed recounts the tragic history of the rancor keeper.
Charlie Jane Anders explores the life and times of the Sarlacc.
Fran Wilde reveals Mon Mothma’s secret mission to save the Rebel Alliance.
Mary Kenney chronicles Wicket the Ewok’s quest for one quiet day on the forest moon of Endor.
And Anakin Skywalker becomes one with the Force in a gripping tale by Mike Chen."
@rechelon back The early 90s were a wild time for academic culture wars. Some dean or academic VP or whatnot called my dad (who iirc at that point was still pre-tenure) into his office to admonish him that all viewpoints are equally valid. "Is the viewpoint that not all viewpoints are equally valid an equally valid viewpoint?" led to several minutes of silent pacing + fuming before a grudging concession that yes, that was also an equally valid viewpoint.
@chrishudsonjr @cjciaramella oooh, debirdify et al. hadn't picked up CJ on my last scan to migrate follows.
@rechelon "if I steal your lunch in my reality will you be hungry in your reality"
@KevinCarson1 anyway, whenever this kind of shit comes up I'm reminded that in the parable of the sheep and the goats, the members of *both* groups are surprised to find out where they are standing...
@KevinCarson1 Such a weird interaction especially when the Pope didn't say anything about liberation theology or rebellion 🤔 And a false dichotomy - Christians are called to endure hardship and oppression *in our own lives*, while opposing the oppression of others...
@staidwinnow @arossp @junecasagrande The incongruity was exactly the point? Cato are very outspoken when it comes to promoting *libertarian* causes, sure not every cause gets equal energy, but smearing them as conservative/republican and ignoring the extremely outspoken efforts of folks like Alex Nowrasteh or Clark Neily because you're mad about how they handle some other area of advocacy is just obtuse.

@staidwinnow @arossp @junecasagrande like uh open borders and criminal justice reform?
Okay, well this week Mandalorian is back on top for "maximum impact", hot damn.
@arossp @junecasagrande @Popehat I usually primary R and then vote Ds for national office in the general, and split ballot in local races. This year I voted Peter Welch (D) for senate but Madden (R*) for house. Neither vote actually mattered because it’s VT.
@junecasagrande @arossp @Popehat but on the overall litmus test of “only issues that benefit rich white men” they outflank to the left anyone in the Democrat party on liberalizing immigration, criminal justice reform, and ending US neo-colonial trade policies like the Jones Act.
