My team asked me to create a demo and tutorial on anything I wanted, and I chose multiplayer VR, because I thought it would be a good learning opportunity.

I've never regretted anything so much in my entire life 🫠

@dev @ricci I think it's the other way around - Theo has PIE roots, and Deus is the Latin cognate to Greek Zeus.

@ricci @dev (although to Dev's original point, Theodore *is* derived from "θεός", which is pretty confusing given its similarity to Theodoric)

@ricci @dev If we're looking at Old English/Germanic roots, it's important to note that the root of Tolkien's Rohirric name Théoden and the real-world Germanic names Theodred (which Tolkien also used as the Rohirric Théodred) and Theodoric is "þeod", which is unrelated to the Greek "θεός".

@redmp @shriramk @lindsey what is this “remember to check” when you have 4, maybe 5 classes? I’m about the least organized person on the planet (and was even less so as a first year in college) and I…just listened to what the prof said at the end of class?

@krismicinski (I did the review but have only done like 1 round of paper submissions in ~4 years since then)

@krismicinski as someone whose incentives for publishing are purely recreational at this point, I pretty much noped out after being asked to be a reviewer for a conference based on a PC member considering me an expert from remembering a paper that had been rejected from the same conference.

We've talked of booting Linux off of APFS some day, which would be cursed enough... but I raise you booting Windows off of btrfs.

Cursed.

Fun fire fact of the day:

10 V.S.A., Ch. 83, §2645(a) includes the following paragraph “A person is not required to have a permit for a campfire (any fire for cooking or warming) on their own land.”

I also edit my .emacs file in vim just because this makes people angry.

From the leopards-eating-faces department: In 48 hours, Matt Taibbi went from Elon Musk's hand-picked propagandist to being unfollowed by Musk, completely de-boosted in the Twitter feed, and announcing his departure from Twitter after Musk rendered Substack links completely inaccessible from the bird app.

Incredible and yet somehow predictable turn of events here catalogued by @mmasnick, who writes "The refrain to remember with Twitter under Elon Musk: it can always get dumber". techdirt.com/2023/04/10/after-

Does this guy not know that he's putting AI-powered "full self-driving" cars on the road based on literally the argument in this meme...

@lzg right now I’m the friend on Mastodon DMing curated selections of good toots and nobody is going for it 😭
