I'll never understand how Effective Altruism went from "choose charities that spend donations efficiently on causes that yield demonstrable benefits" to "ripping off people's life savings is ethical, so long as we contribute some of it to funding basilisk research"

@damienmiller it really doesn’t take long for the followers of any religious teacher (saying very helpful/moral things) to 180° those teachings into whatever the followers want them to mean (usually justifying their own pursuit of power & comfort)
