A number of people have asked me if I think that governments should run Mastodon instances for citizens. There may be exceptions, but I don't think governments should be in this business, for a variety of reasons.

However, I do think that *Libraries* would be *amazing* hosts for public federated social media communities. Just sayin'.

@elfprince13 @blaine I think libraries missed a crucial window where they could have become like public internet utilities both giving access to AND HOSTING things like email, web hosting and yeah even Mastodon. Unfortunately I think they've branched in different directions and there's no longer the funding or the skillset in the current profession as it exists in the wider world. I LOVE the idea and I'd do it in a heartbeat and oh now I think i should look at grants....
