Why I hate reverse chronological feeds and, in some ways, love algorithms:
There are a few ppl for whom I want to see almost all of what they post, but a huge number of ppl for whom I don’t want to see most of what they post but very much want to see some sizable minority of their posts, most relevant to me
I could waste my life carefully curating a feed with hashtags to get the latter while following only the former…Or an algorithm that can see exactly what I like can give me a hand
@wrigleyfield I find algorithmic timelines are always trying to infer too much about my preferences from non-interactions, and end up hiding stuff from people whose content I want to see but don’t have strong opinions about
@wrigleyfield it’s much easier to scroll over a bunch of content I don’t care about than to remember to manually search for life updates of people who’ve gone missing from the feed because the algorithm decided I didn’t care about them
