Social conservatives who say society needs "traditional" virtues tend to give rather thin arguments for why what they have in mind in fact are virtues, and instead articulate a set of personally-held mere social tastes, and then just assert that they are virtues. This reminds me of the local group of Q-moms were upset that a school gay-straight alliance club sponsored an after school drag show. They showed up at a school board meeting in some of the drag costumes, and it wasn't even scandalous enough to get the attention they crave.

A lot of reactionary culture war anger is discovering that most of the culture just isn't bothered by the weird things the culture warriors are bothered by. And this then gets spun into assaults on them, or violations of their rights/freedoms, because they're owed, they believe, a broader culture that aligns with their hang-ups.
