One of the things I used That Other Microblogging Site for was Tales from Drop-In Time. However I mostly use Mastodon from the desktop and don't see a way to create threads from the desktop (i.e. pre-write a series of maybe 6-8 toots and post them all at once). Is there another desktop masto app that does this? I checked and I think the answer is no? But maybe I missed something. I know there are mobile apps, but that is not what I want. Ideas? Mac platform.
@jessamyn maybe because people shouldn't be encouraged to create and write threads. It is annoying and painful both for the writers and readers.
I would suggest writing in a blog or personnal websites and link to them. There is a fediverse writing platform that just do that very well, it is called Write Freely. You can write there and boost from mastodon for visibility. It can be self hosted, or you can use their own write.as official instance or join a community available one such a rant.li.
@thomas Thanks. I have a blog, two in fact. This is a specific use case that Twitter worked well for and that I'd like to use Mastodon for. It's easier, using Mastodon's settings, to make a (short) thread where people only see the first post and can read the rest if they prefer. And some of the mobile clients make it simpler. It's not universal that people find threads annoying.
@delfuego @jessamyn @thomas same here! Tales from drop ins was always a delight and would be great here. I haven’t found any tools to help make threads easier, I end up having to reply to my own, but it would be nice if a client could “chunk up” a too-long post and submit multiple at the end.
The fediverse is a new playground that should be experimented with.
