I know it has to do with a whole social history going back to the Norman Conquest, but it still makes me feel a bit icky when Writing Influencers implore the use of "good, strong, Germanic words."

It's just a weird framing isn't it? And it's often not even accurate!

Take for example the words "groggy" (of French derivation) and "befuddled" (good, strong Germanic??)
