An interesting consequence of this is that renting a car in Germany will become a lot easier for people who can't drive a stick.

In the spirit of inflicting random tangents on mutuals in their replies:
I am pleased to be on course to jump directly a manual transmission to no transmission (EV). A lifetime of never owning an automatic! (This is assuming I ever buy a new car at all, which is likely but still an open question.)

@inthehands @shriramk living in a snowy/muddy and mountainous state, one of my favorite things about my hybrid SUV is that it still has a "manual" mode for keeping engine RPMs basically correlated with wheel RPMs.
