This looks great!

One of my goals for the next 5 years, is to "Learn more about co-ops." Geniuses accuse me of being anti-capitalist whenever I point out situations where capitalism's incentives fail to solve social issues.🤷🏿‍♂️

This poisons our thinking, and makes us say things like "Is the US Post Office profitable?" And "Our town's hospital closed because it wasn't making money."

It's pretty clear that we need to find other ways to pay for things.

My controversial pro-capitalism, pro-VC opinion, is that I'm not convinced that VC is usually degenerate. Because by assets under management, so much VC money is controlled by openly anti-democratic, pro-alt-right, anti-social folk, and so little of it is controlled by people that make good decisions about society.🤷🏿‍♂️

These dudes could make a petting zoo evil.

And I'm not convinced that becoming a VC automatically makes a good person act like that.

I'd love to see how society destroying VC still is, when 15% of VC assets under management are controlled by Black women who care about other people.

My point is not as simple as "VC bad! Always bad!" but that we need different ways to pay for different things.

I think a profound lack of imagination causes us to think that everything, especially technical innovation, must be funded by ginormous bags of VC money.

My anti-capitalist friends just say, "You're wrong. Capitalism cannot be good. But we ain't tripping. You'll see soon enough. Let me know how all that 'reforming' works out for you. You're just building kinder, gentler, capitalists."

My pro-capitalism friends say "Co-op?! You want to learn about co-ops?! You're basically Stalin now! What happened to you?!"

@mekkaokereke @jalcine @brianonbarrington @PJ_Evans Do people ever stop to think how weird it is that they care more about ideology than how economic systems actually function in the real world? I mean, I know economics is basically just astrology for men who believe in Social Darwinism pseudoscience but are people entirely unable to think about just practical social things without it being about their personal identity. If people just focused on practical evidence-based ways to get things done, our world would be a far better place.

*macro-economics* is astrology.

micro-economics is hardcore fundamental computer science theory.
