The tragedy of fanboidom:

When you admire someone you rarely have much to say in a conference, like “I love your work” or something along those lines and the conversation wraps up.

But when you disagree with someone you go to them and go “let me list the 30 reasons you are wrong”

So you end up getting to know better the people you dislike the most, and never the people you admire.

Or maybe that’s just my manufacturing defect.

@Migueldeicaza Oh ya. I did this with Carl Franklin once when he was doing a talk on Xamarin.

Me: "You're Carl Franklin!"
Brain: "He knows who he is."
Me: "When I was in high school I used to sneak into a computer lab at a nearby university to see what was new on your site/download VBX controls."
Carl: "Oh, well it's nice to meet you."
Brain: -silence-
Me: "Uhm."
Brain: -silence-
Me: "Ok I'm going to be buffet, have a nice day."

@bpell @Migueldeicaza this is always me meeting celebrities at Comic-Con. *however* I did manage to sit myself directly behind Freeman Dyson all day at a symposium one time, and basically spent each talk brainstorming conversational topics to bring up between sessions.
