@annaleen I voted for fragmentation because it has already caused me real headaches.
I'm not on the instance where most of my tech community is, and their instance does not accept mastodon.social by default (due to lack of moderation), so I'm just not part of most of the interesting conversations.
Twitter is working far better for me, which is a very sad statement to make, but I'm interested on social media for value over ideology (else I wouldn't use them at all).
@Imcrees @annaleen @shriramk it’s definitely an annoyance, but there are affordable hosted solutions if you didn’t want to be your own sysadmin. And I don’t use the instance feeds (one of my least favorite features on Twitter and Instagram is random crap getting injected from people I don’t follow), but I guess you can subscribe your server to relays if you want that experience
@Imcrees @elfprince13 @annaleen The legal aspects were enough to turn me off. Plus, I'm so done being my own sys admin.
@elfprince13 @shriramk @annaleen i’ve been wondering if this is the way. Seems a lot of trouble to run your own instance. But if you’re not using the instance part of your feed (for example, being in big social servers), it just makes sense. I wonder what are the legal implications too
