"What's that?" Y'all this is four features covering three and a half hours of seminal 80s-90s experimental dance, plus special features. I bought this JUST for a single 15 minute piece which is the best film representation of a Steve Reich piece I've ever seen ( mastodon.social/@mcc/110386487 ) and there's so much other stuff in the box. It's oversize actually so either there's multiple DVDs in here or it comes with a nice meaty paper book

If the name "Steve Reich" means anything at all to you I would like to very strongly encourage you to turn off all the lights, do whatever preparations you would normally do to enter an altered state, and then watch this video

I have spent YEARS, like, a decade or more, trying to get a clean hq original copy of this video and now I've got one :D

@mcc I have no context for any of this, but it’s fascinating and I’m glad you shared it!

@calder Haha, well I'm glad

It's an attempt to do a dance representation of a really historically important 1966 "new music" piece by Steve Reich, it's one of a few pieces he did around then that basically predicted sample-based Electronic music by decades despite the fact he had no electronics just some tape machines and some splicing equipment. Just doing a whole lot with very little

("It's Gonna Rain" sounds for all the world like trance music to me)
