Eh. The attempted auto-refollow dynamic is a HUGE improvement from the early days but there is a fuck ton that could be improved re one's archives, links, etc via some crypto work. And the re-following may bring some but it still loses you a lot of connections in practice.
If you're on a small server and it suddenly ceases to exist or if the admin decides to delete you because you called out his rapist buddy, then you're basically deleted from existence. There are a lot of imperfect tradeoffs here and server transfer still depends on a lot of assumptions.
