Ok, I have spoken about my vetting processes before. On Twitter when someone I don’t know DMs me I check the following:

1) are they followed by people I follow?
2) what are their recent posts and replies?
3) (if I’m still unsure) search their username and problematic words

Here: I have none of that. So I get a “hi” DM and 🤷🏻‍♀️ - they might be a perfectly nice person, I have no idea. And that’s a problem for me.

@Patricia Is it because the app/system doesn't have the necessary functionality, or something else?

@bradleythughes yes, missing functionality and often explicitly not implemented functionality with seemingly reasonable reasons, but to me they always sound the same: “as a white man I don’t want to have to take responsibility for my actions” but always using a marginalized person as an alibi and seemingly inclusive language.

@bradleythughes @Patricia the “I don’t want search it violates my privacy” is security-through-obscurity nonsense.

@Patricia @bradleythughes The UI decisions on here are wild (see also the DMs pulling in people who are mentioned, and preferring screenshot gossip to QTs)

@elfprince13 @bradleythughes it’s like someone tried to make a place that was unsafe on purpose
