@Patricia Her procedural changes to the House barring individual representatives from offering amendments on the floor probably bears more responsibility for the US’s dysfunctional legislature than any other contributing factor.

@leak Not knowing anything about the book you're using, I almost wonder if it's an intentional joke based on round-tripping the translation?

@leak Amusingly, he *did* get into a bit of a predicament trying to explain the concept to Athenians who at that point had *no* cultural concept for resurrection (the undercurrent in Acts 17 is that maybe they think when he says ᾰ̓νᾰ́στᾰσῐς he's introducing a new goddess, that would transliterate as Anastasia, as Jesus's consort)

@leak I don't know enough about how pre-Christian Hellenistic Jews would have translated resurrection, but at the point when Paul starts using ᾰ̓νᾰ́στᾰσῐς, almost all extant Christians were also observant Jews, so there shouldn't have been much conceptual drift.

But those are just some questions off the top of my head. I'm mostly interested in summaries of the ups and downs from experienced, accomplished developers who have used it in anger for real work.

@leak huh - the concept of resurrection gets translated from Hebrew into Greek as ᾰ̓νᾰ́στᾰσῐς which is also basically “to get up”

Based on a simple linear regression model, only ~600 more rounds of voting to get McCarthy down to 0 votes.

@heather @irene 💯 there are no good choices. One of little cousins got MIS-C after he had COVID and spent months in and out of the hospital.

The only upshot now as compared to a year ago is little kids can get finally get vaccinated

@heather @irene our pediatrician was like "you can take them out of daycare and it's a little better, but then you're delaying social development, and their immune system is going to take the same beating in kindergarten anyway, might as well do it now"

@heather @irene my wife and avoided COVID until January 2022, about 6 weeks after our baby started daycare (only twice a week!) and brought it home... and yeah, our 1 day of a nanny costs more than our 2 days of daycare (happily live near family and my mom can also cover us 1 day).

My wife just read that expected incidence of illnesses in daycare kids is like ~30 weeks in the first year, which, uh, checks out with our experience (😭).

@normative also somehow I'm highly doubting that the university would handle a display of "Piss Christ" in the same fashion.

@mekkaokereke I'm a big fan of the NESCAC "no athletic scholarships" policy. I had so many friends who were offered "definitely not athletics scholarships" as part of recruitment deals and then left the athletic program that had recruited them 1 semester in and got to keep the money.

@BartWronski what does "too similar to AI generated style" even mean when the main thing generative AIs are good at is copying arbitrarily niche styles? 🧐
